I couldn’t make the fingerprint work
I love how it looks and how it works, but most important, it is sustainable and its componentes are replaceable. It is expensive, but I think it worth it.
It's a great and basic smartphone. Pros: Fixability, 5 years product guarantee, eSim, simple transfer from old phone to new, montly OS updates Cons: Camera compared to newest phones from other companies not as good, no earphone jack Pros heavily outweigh the cons for me though + I support their effort for a transparent supply chain.

Battery doesn't last long. But the phone does! So I dont mind.Everything can be swapped out easily. Updates till 2031,so this one is a keeper.

The smartphone is a little slow to open Apps, but once opened works perfectly. That is my only negative point. The rest is very good.

This is my first Fairphone and I love it. It's a pleasure to use it, the ability to repair in the future with just a few screws is fantastic. I'm looking forward to keeping this phone as my only device for many years.

Good phone. A bit pricey but understandable.
Camera already failed once after two days of usage. Software seemed stuck. Could still record video and use panoramic and pro option but portret and normal camera stayed blurry. Had to reboot. Not sure if it's me and my finger coordination but clicking links often fails or misselects the wrong text in apps like Reddit. Did not have this issue with FP 3.
Fast, easy and nice to use
Solid phone. Feels like a nice update compared to the Fairphone 3 I've used for 4 years. Let's hope this one will stay with me even longer!

Works fine, it's just a bit thick and it pricey.
My first impression was that I was really glad to have a phone with a fingerprint sensor that works properly! My previous phone was a Fairphone 3, which I had for nearly 5 years and only changed because I allowed it to get water-damaged. The step up in internal memory is going to be very helpful, as we seem to have to add more and more apps to do things.

It is a good phone, and you get what was promised. Mostly. The phone offers many years of security updates. But these seem to come months after release and are just the bare minimum. This is unfortunately not uncommon in this industry. Other security features are also missing. This is for example the reason why GraphaneOS is not available on any Fairphone, which I would really like to install on my Fairphone 5 :(.
I'm impressed. The hardware is solid and well-made. Love the modular, repairable design. The UI is clean and responsive. I use it just like my previous device and it works perfectly. This phone is prove that sustainable technology can exist. I just wish the protective case was a bit less expensive.
It's my third or fourth Fairphone so you can tell I am happy with the ethos and the quality.

Exactly the kind of phone I need, for not being a mobile gamer, nor a social media user, so not much use for a jaw dropping camera. Still a pretty good camera for me, except in low light. Great screen, resolution, contrast, depth of color. Sound is okay too. The fact that I'll get to repair it and rely on it for years makes me happy.
Bigger and heavier then my previous phone. It's easy to notice because I hold the phone in my hand all the time. Spent some time getting to know the latest android version but it's fine. All functions that I need work. I did overlook the absence of the headphone jack and a second physical sim slot. That's why I converted one of my sims to an E-sim. The cover on the back is difficult to remove when it's stuck on one of the pegs holding it in place.
The phone is cool, the percieved quality of the product is really high, the concept is AWESOME and GREAT (genius), I agree with the idea behind the product. Because of all these aspects, I will surely 100% purchase again the product in the future... BUT...there are "some comprimises" that I didn't like so much on: camera, spare parts, size, prices. I hope that they will improve the situation on FP6

I like very much the cellphone built by Fairphone due to the circular economy it has behind it. The quality is very good, but especially is the thing that you can repair it yourself if needed and has the possibility to change the battery and other parts. I like also that they give you support for at least 5 years, included in the warranty and also for the software. I hope it will last at least the 5 years my last Fairphone lasted.

Its just perfect. Great specs, good looks and it reminds me all the time about responsible consumer choices, I can't count the times I have blown people's heads off when showing how a fairphone works. I Love it.
The phone works smoothly, not a top tier but that was expected. The highest value is the social and environmental value behind It!
The touchscreen is not very good, but everything else is fine
It's not worth it's money if you are looking for a gaming or performance based phone. It does however make up for it with the 5 year guarantee! You can take out most of the simpler components like the camera and speaker, whereas you can't even take out the battery out of most modern phones. I did wish you could take out the ram or even the processor in order to upgrade it like a pc, so you would only ever replace the parts you have issues with and keep the phone for even longer. That would be an absolute dream. As of now it could handle all of my applications and is perfect for a day to day phone. Wifi and data roaming seems to drain the battery rather quickly and the screen brightness jumps around very weirdly if it is set to auto adjust (which is barely worthy of a mention, though it did really bug me at the start). Other than that, I haven't had any issues so far! Hope it'll actually last for as long as promised! Edit: So it turns out AR mode isn't supported, which is useful for measuring tools or interactive games- For me this is a very important feature which is commonplace amongst any android or IOS. Additionally it's supported by phones which similar hardware. I am beyond confused why this isn't available. Personally, this is a very important feature. Though I value fairness, it doesn't feel fair towards the consumer to disregard such a feature at this cost. It's not a hardware issue, it's a fairphone one. Fix it.
I was surprised to see that there is no audio plug for a headset. More importantly, the phone does not have any way to communicate that there is a pending notification without turning the display on: no notification LED, no Always-On Display. The feature exists in Android 14 but was removed by FairPhone because of a battery issue earlier this year and there's no information about it ever returning. It's not even possible to reenable it and endure the battery issue as they have fully removed it from the system. This is a dealbreaker for me. I've contacted their support to try to either find a solution, know if there would be a fix coming or discuss a refund and they've been extremely slow and unhelpful, sending me canned responses and even mistakenly including internal instructions I shouldn't be seeing like this one: "### DO NOT SEND This delay apology has already been used. Try not to apologize again, but if you feel it necessary please reword as appropriate." I've owned a FP3 for years and was excited about getting an upgrade while continuing to support FairPhone and making the phone market slightly more sustainable and ethical, but this level of customer support makes it impossible to fix even the easiest issues. I've lost all trust in them.

Is a very sturdy phone. Everything well so far
It does everything a normal person needs from their phone with sufficient speed, memory & battery life. The slightly high price is offset by the knowledge that the phone's footprint over other people's lives and futures is as small as it reasonably can be within our current toxic production/consumption system.
Excellent phone, fast, easy to use, battery life about 48 h in average usage
Some menu options are not translated into Polish. The LED flashlight is less bright than in Samsung. Camera under the screen is not something I like. Overall, great repairable long-lasting phone. I am delighted.

Really nice camera. Android and UI is sometimes a bit laggy/buggy but not annoyingly much.
Very nice progress from FP4
After the first days, using the phone more than usual, battery life has improved. The automatic screen brightness setting doesn't work. Or better : it works too much, changing the brightness of the screen the whole time, which is very annoying, so I am now changing the brightness manually the whole time. The phone is sturdy. Fortunately, as the aluminium casing is a bit slippery (already dropped it twince within the first 24 hours). It's quite heavy and thick, which I knew beforehand. Opening the phone is easy. Haven't done too much with that feature yet, but it will surely come in handy once I break the screen.
Value for the money is great: saved lives, preserved planet; I wouldn’t choose anything else, even if it meant sacrificing features, and I don’t even have to! Regarding the phone, well, it’s Android, and it’s good; “LineageOS for microG” in my case. Many thanks for officially allowing this Google-free configuration. That’s almost unique. The only thing I really miss from my FP2 is the multi-color LED. You _do_ use a LED, as a battery indicator; it’s so sad that you dropped its multi-purpose ability. With the FP2, I didn’t need to be next to my phone to know something had happened. I just loved being able to know at a glance that I had received an email (ping blinking), or an SMS/MMS (green blinking), or a calendar alert (blue blinking)… but after almost 9 years of use, it was begging for retirement… Please bring that color LED back in the future! If that could happen on the FP3 with a simple module replacement, that would be awesome ♥
Love this phone! It's the best Fairphone so far and I love everything about it! Perhaps the battery life could be a little bit better but I am definitely giving a 5 star since I can easily get an extra battery, charge it up, switch it out and easily carry an extra battery with me.
It's just great ok? It's only downside is that it isn't watertight but like, it's not like I'm planning on throwing it into water soon, but I know that I will have to replace the parts eventually.
It's modular and ethical. There is no competition.

Great product if we speak about battery, modularity and screen. But the processor is way too slow, I would love to pay for a modular processor upgrade so I could do my tasks faster and videos won't be laggy

phone is AMAZING, PLEASE keep up the custom ROM support thats what i love the most. only "problems": BATTERY life and maybe full water protection, and your phone will be PERFECT

Great phone. Rather barebones android, which essentially is nice, but some more functionality like other brands bring can be nice.
Battery life is above average and improved from fairphone 4. Good usability, and great that Android is pretty much vanilla.
I bought the phone from the website and from the second day the brightness of the screen fluctuated when I was sitting in total darkness. This has only happened to me once and I don't yet know whether this is due to the phone's sensor or the OS The USB-C socket also wobbles quite noticeably. But the cable holds without interrupting the charging process. I don't know if this is intentional.
It's worth paying a little more if it helps to exploit the poorest people in the world a little less!
It's awesome. Open bootloarder makes it possible to install custom ROMs and there's plenty that support FP5
Very good product
Product seems of good physical quality but the software implementation has significant issues: - Immediately kills background apps making much of the phone functionality unusable, Can't use live chats and leave to get info, Can't run music in the background, can't use a password manager, Can't get a security code for a login,... - First bit of slight exposure to moisture and the charging port stops working on what might be a sensor or a software problem. - Follow up on this apparently any exposure to any moisture (not talking submerged but a slightly damp pocket) is warrantee voiding. Rendering their long warranty period useless if they aren't willing to support a phone that experiences commonplace events. DO NOT BUY, They claim to be fair but are clearly too small to support the warranty they offer.

The phone is a little large and heavy (but that was expected), but until now (2 weeks old) it works very well.
Great product, a big step up from the Fairphone 3+ I had previously. I am very happy to support the change fairphone is bringing to the market!
Overall, I am not unhappy with the purchase, but I am not happy either. I was disappointed to find that the price is too high compared to the quality and performance of the phone. Furthermore, I thought I would buy a phone produced in a country giving me certainty about the high environmental and social standards and criteria of production. Once I received the product, I discovered that it is only designed in the Netherlands but it is manufactured and assembled in China, just like any other phone. It is only more expensive than the others having the same or better quality. So, how can I be sure my fairphone is actually "fair"? Finally, the battery lasts very little, even when the phone has not been used much. Moreover, it does not charge with all chargers with a USB plug. I had not purchased the charger when ordering the fairphone based on the principle and message appearing on the screen saying I could use my old charger. I had to try three chargers (all of which work with other phones) before I was able to charge the battery.
After adventures with Xiaomi where I had a problem to exchange the parts, even battery and at the end it was impossible to flash my old phone as they required to do that using the tool which stopped to work prior to activation. I am happy to own the phone which gives you the guarantee for both software and hardware long term maintenance.
I've had this phone for two weeks now and am very satisfied. It is a bit heavier than the One Plus I had before, but other than that it seems to do everything I want it to do.
Easy to use, good quality, no complaints so far. The only brand in the market providing modularity, ethically sourced materials and (at least) 7 years of updates - these were my main reasons for choosing Fairphone.
i've had the Fairphone3 for almost 5 Years, this one is almost twice as expensive but not twice as good :( bit of a letdown, really. I'ts not as fast as the old secon-hand-phone i had prior to this and it gets really hot while navigating or connected to a bluetooth device. This shouldn't be happening after 2 weeks of use. The short battery life is connected to this overheating issue, imo.
Honest review. Obviously the idea behind this product is fantastic, and we all want it to work. And it does work! BUT don't expect the smoothest software and don't expect amazing photos. It does the job, it works and the battery is reasonably large. I have it from little time, I am still setting it up to fit my needs, but it seems to me like a fiat panda, with optionals. Its stubborn, it makes you swear sometimes, but it will work forever.
The phone is absolutly perfect. I can't say any bad from it. I found some menu in the OS where is the translation is not complet. But that's all. I think the OS is fast and fluent. The hardware is fairly strong for daily use. If you don't want to play on the phone, but if you need a reliable product the Fairphone is the best choose.
A very good phone! In spite of price, the global value is high! Better to spend more money than more human rights and environment!
Excellent build quality, very resistant to falls, which I much appreciate. Speakers and vibration motor are low quality. Coming from iOS, i find Android unrefined. Most annoyingly, double tap to wake up doesn't work most of the time. Anyway, I was happy to find that it supports the iOS gesture (swipe from the bottom) for multitasking and going to the home screen.
Nice to have an ultimate generation mobile phone that has an ethical background.

Solid device, snappy in day to day use. Most important factors for me were a replaceable battery and ability to flash CalyxOS on it. Please keep the ability to unlock the bootloader in future Fairphones.

Repairable, long term software support, equitable human rights record and environmental best practice. More expensive than a premium quality refurb, but none of the baggage of planned obsolescence. FP5 is responsive, has a nice display, and far better camera quality than my old FP3+. First FP I've owned that really feels up to date. If you don't want to compromise on your ethics OR on the quality of your phone, this is the one for you.
It was fonctionning good, until it suddenly stopped and it was not possible to reuse it. I sent a message to get help but I did'nt receive any... The battery life was not long: not more than one day. I think it is a lot of money for something that isn't working...

I purchased a mobile phone from Fairphone, but they never delivered the package. Unfortunately, I mistyped the shipping address during checkout. Realizing this almost immediately, I contacted Fairphone by email to provide the correct address, hoping they would correct it before shipping. However, despite my efforts, they never replied. I contacted them three times: the first time, less than 10 minutes after placing the order; the second, when UPS marked the package as received; and the third, when UPS marked it as delivered. It has been 15 days, and I still haven’t received a single response from their customer service team. To make matters worse, the automatic response from their support email states that they take 8 to 10 days to reply. This is completely illogical, especially since their own support page recommends contacting them immediately in cases of shipping address errors. If they’re going to take 8 to 10 days to reply, it's pointless to reach out at all. This lack of communication is unacceptable. I was really looking forward to receiving my Fairphone, but this experience has been nothing short of frustrating. I expected better from a company that claims to prioritize ethical practices.

Daarnaast is de batterij gemaakt met eerlijk lithium en 100% Fairtrade goud en bevat hij 100% gerecyclede soldeertin, 80% gerecycled staal en nikkel en 75% gerecycled plastic. Met een capaciteit van 4200 mAh en een snellaadfunctie van 30 W gaat hij bovendien de hele dag mee. Sluit de oplader aan en binnen 20 minuten is de batterij voor 50% opgeladen. Je hoeft trouwens nooit bang te zijn dat je telefoon uitvalt, want je kunt je lege batterij altijd vervangen door een reservebatterij.

De Fairphone 5 is uitgerust met onze eerlijkste batterij tot nu toe. Hij bevat eerlijk lithium en Fairtrade goud, wat de mijnwerkers en hun gemeenschap ten goede komt. Daarnaast draagt het kobalt dat gebruikt wordt voor de Fairphone 5 bij aan betere werkomstandigheden voor ambachtelijke en kleinschalige mijnwerkers. ‘Klimaatbewust’ wijst op het vermijden en verminderen van CO2-uitstoot door producten te ontwerpen die lang meegaan, samen te werken met onze leveranciers om de voetafdruk van onze producten te verkleinen en te investeren in de planeet en in projecten die mensen op de eerste plaats zetten. Hoe doen we dat?
Door producten te ontwerpen die lang meegaan:
We hoeven er geen doekjes om te winden: bij de productie van een nieuwe telefoon wordt veel CO2 uitgestoten. Daarom zorgen we ervoor dat al onze toestellen, inclusief jouw Fairphone 5, lang meegaan. Dat doen we door telefoons te ontwerpen die modulair zijn én lang ondersteund worden. Onze lange hardware garantie van 5 jaar en nog langere softwareondersteuning van 8 jaar maken het makkelijk om je telefoon langer te houden. Om ervoor te zorgen dat we steeds beter worden, voeren we levenscyclus analyses uit om de uitstoot en andere milieueffecten van onze producten in kaart te brengen. Door samen te werken met onze leveranciers:
Onze partners die zorgen voor de eindassemblage en de productie van onze batterijen gebruiken hernieuwbare energie voor de productie van Fairphone 5. Maar daar blijft het niet bij. Door onze leveranciers te verplichten om klimaatdoelstellingen te hanteren, stimuleren we CO2-reductie in onze toeleveringsketen en die van andere bedrijven. Daarnaast is de Fairphone 5 gemaakt met eerlijkere, duurzamere materialen. Jouw nieuwe telefoon bevat gerecycled aluminium, magnesium, zeldzame aardmetalen, tin, nikkel, zink, koper, plastic, en voor het eerst ook indium.

Door te investeren in Gold Standard-projecten in Oeganda en Congo, helpen we de CO2-uitstoot terug te dringen en ondersteunen we de lokale gemeenschappen. Met onze bijdrage compenseren we de uitstoot van de Fairphone 5 tijdens zijn hele levenscyclus.

De Fairphone 5 is onze meest duurzame telefoon tot nu toe. Gemaakt van meer eerlijke en gerecyclede materialen. Hier is een kleine blik op de binnenkant.
Onze eerlijkste batterij
Met een capaciteit van 4200 mAh gaat deze batterij de hele dag mee. Je vervangt hem in enkele seconden door een reservebatterij. Bovendien is de batterij gemaakt met meer eerlijke materialen dan ooit.
OLED-scherm
Het OLED-scherm van de Fairphone 5 is gemaakt met duurzaam Corning Gorilla Glass. Het scherm vervangen is een fluitje van een cent. Het enige wat je nodig hebt is een schroevendraaier en een paar minuten tijd.
USB-C-poort
Voor het geval deze kleine, maar onmisbare connector er ooit de brui aan geeft, hebben we er bij de Fairphone 5 voor gezorgd dat je hem zelf kunt vervangen.
Luidspreker
De speaker van je Fairphone 5 bevat 100% gerecyclede zeldzame aardmetalen. Voor het afdekplaatje gebruiken we 90% gerecycled plastic en in de toeleveringsketen wordt gebruikgemaakt van Fairtrade goud.
Wat zit er in de doos?
We leveren alles mee wat je nodig hebt om je Fairphone te gebruiken. Niets meer. Niets minder.
Sommige onderdelen zitten niet in de doos:
een USB-kabel, een oplader en een audio jack adapter leveren we niet standaard mee, omdat je die waarschijnlijk al hebt. Gebruik ze maar. Dat werkt perfect, en zo besparen we weer wat afval. Maar geen zorgen: uiteraard kun je deze items , indien nodig, gewoon kopen.

Heb jij ooit een oude telefoon weggestopt in een lade? Recycle hem en verminder zo afval. Het is de moeite waard.

Wanneer hebben we de Fairphone 5 gelanceerd?
De Fairphone 5 werd gelanceerd op 30 augustus 2023.
Wat is het formaat van het apparaat?
De afmetingen van de Fairphone 5 zijn 75,83 x 9,6 x 161,6 mm (B x D x H) en hij weegt 212 gram. Het is onze dunste telefoon tot nu toe: het toestel is bijna 9% dunner dan de Fairphone 4.
Wat is een oled-display en waarom is het beter?
Oled staat voor ‘organic light-emitting diode’ (organische licht-emitterende diode). Een oled-display biedt een hogere verversingssnelheid en een beter contrast in vergelijking met andere veelgebruikte displays. Hierdoor zijn de kleuren levendiger en is het zwart nog donkerder. De Fairphone 5 is onze eerste telefoon met een oled-display.
Wat zijn onze plannen voor beveiligingsupdates?
We zijn van plan om ten minste acht jaar lang (vanaf de lanceringsdatum) beveiligingsupdates te leveren.
Is de camera van de Fairphone 5 beter dan die van de Fairphone 4?
Ja, de camera is aanzienlijk verbeterd ten opzichte van die van de Fairphone 4. De Fairphone 5 is voorzien van een hoogwaardig drievoudig 50MP-camerasysteem met Sony-cameralenzen van topkwaliteit. Dit garandeert geweldige foto’s onder alle lichtomstandigheden. Ook aan de software is gedacht: we hebben de instellingen van de camera aanzienlijk verbeterd. Bovendien kun je nu veel sneller schakelen tussen camera’s en is de opnamesnelheid verbeterd. En dankzij ons kenmerkende modulaire design zijn alle drie de lenzen eenvoudig te vervangen.
