It's good money for value. The interface could be improved a bit but in general lines the phone runs smooth and looks great
Very stable, the added value is that I still have all the fairphones I bought (one each for my son and daughter) so far, so the new green one is in good company. I own this new phone since last week, so it's very new, perfectly working, very shiny and beautiful :) Maybe it's an early impression, it seems to me the battery lasts approximately 1 our less than a new one on a fp3+. I'm liking the new touch detector for the fingerprint, even if I need time to get used to its position I find it easy to use, protected, so maybe more long-lasting than the previous one. The touch on the monitor is slightly different from the previous versions of it; what is different also is the camera! I'm taking amazing pictures, and I love this feature.

Robust phone, easy to use,. Chose it mainly because of the fact that the company is a B Corp, sourcing most of the materials as locally as possible, prefers fair trade, has a 5 year guarantee, doesn't supply superfluous stuff like cables.

Great build quality, sleek design.
Why fairphone is my choice. I buy a phone, and I am allowed by manufacturer to put on it custom operating system. Beautiful design and robust construction. Personally, I would preffer a smaller screen/phone.
I expected more for Battery Life
Phone crashed repeatedly and within a few minutes ceased to work. I have been trying for over a week to contact Fairphone customer support. Online chat support is only available 12 hours/week and no response to emails/ online support form. My family have Fairphones and they have been excellent. I applaud the ethical manufacturing and component sourcing, but this customer service experience has been terrible.

I valued it three starts just not be too harsh as Fairphone has a good purpose. I would give it 1 to be fair. I bought my first FP more than one month ago. It arrived with a problem with the screen, which kept it black, and it took weeks to receive the confirmation it was not my fault so I could have my money back (Even if I live in the Netherlands, not far from Amsterdam). As I try to do my very best to improve this world, I decided to give it a second chance. Now, it has been less than 3 weeks since the new FP arrived, and the screen has started to flick. Unfortunately, this time, the first two weeks for giving it back have already passed. Otherwise, I would return it immediately not to buy it anymore. I prefer to donate money rather than buy a sustainable product, which complicates my life. This should not be called sustainability.
Brought the FP4 for it's sustainability. Couldn't justify buying the FP5 on price. Works well as a phone and a camera. It's a little bit bigger than I would have wanted but hopefully FP 6 will be made a little smaller (?). Ordering was easy, delivery was quick, good to have the option to pick up from a UPS point rather than waiting in at home. A happy customer.
Very good purchase! So far, no issues, although I'd appreciate having received a bumper case, like I did with my FP3. I can't find any online or on the FP website.
I really lite the whole concept but there are some things that annoy me in the settings, that you can't cancel the autocorrect for example.

It has excellent specs for way less money than an equivalent, great quality, and it has a 5-year warranty, and it is more ethical than any other device.
Love my new phone. It works much better than my old Samsung Galaxy. Took some getting used to slightly different functions but works well with all my Apps - particularly Android Auto which used to be really slow. I really like the more robust feel you get from being slightly heavier and feeling good about not adding to un-recycled waste. Very affordable in comparison with other options. I would highly recommend this phone.
Fingers crossed that this, my third Fairphone, lasts longer than the previous two! At least the five year guarantee and projected software support is more promising.
I think that the direction is definitely the right one :) I especially like the minimalistic set of apps and the fact that the phone does not disturb you too much with unneccesary, cluttered things. It IS quite heavy and bulky, compared to other modern smartphones and maybe won't suit you, if you're someone, who absolutely needs all the latest capabilities, but for someone who needs their everyday needs of e-mails, documents, youtube, mapping and other stuff met, then completely sufficient. One thing I would really like, however, is more weatherproofing - water resistance would be great - or atleast some very handy and convenient waterproof case options. My main priority this time was sustainability and security (switching away from Chinese government controlled companies). Hope, I will be able to use for many years to come.
Here are some aspects, that are omitted from the official spec-sheet: 1. The bootloader remains free, that means you can install ANY operating system of your choice, as it should be. 2. The phone is built like a tank. Even without a case it remains usable, in contrast to almost every other smartphone out there and although the back is a softer, more flexible plastic, it is sufficient to protect against usual water splashes and dirt. 3. When something breaks, you have access to any single part to repair it and if that is beyond your budget, you also get schematics for component-level repair. 4. This phone will even survive my mum. Truth be told, you will only recognise how terrible other phones are, once you have one of these, not because of confirmation bias, but when your phone can survive being dropped and still work fine without the glass on the back shattering, or god forbid, even replace the battery by just prying the back off with your bare hands, you will ask yourself, why everything has gone wrong in this industry. As for their “sustainability” advertising: The materials/supply chain are fairer. Reminder. Neither you nor I can do anything for the climate, 100 companies produce the majority of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The most sustainable thing you and I can do, is to hang onto our stuff for as long as possible, repairing it as efficiently as possible, the effect on the climate remains irrelevant.
Excellent product, especially after the update of the camera software
Love the feel of the phone, the way it avoids dubious sources, child exploitation, and is sincerely committed to durability and the replacement of most parts without having to buy a new phone. This is not green-washing, this is the real thing.
I buy Fairphone's because they are environmentally responsible and don't use child labour - it works as well as any other android as far as I can tell.
I'm very pleased the phone overall. The one thing I do miss from my previous phones is a light to notify me of alerts when the phone is on silent, and when it is charging.
Screen is not really responsive, already tried contacting the support desk twice for this but they didn't answer yet. Really doubting to send the phone back as I have 0 trust in the company at this moment

The battery life is not bad ,it's just that it's not good either . More than good enough,it's just that it could be a lot better . Would make the phone even better that it is, especially since Fairphone customers would appreciate a higher quality battery that would last longer . However , I would say that the normal quality battery (not good not bad) negative aspect of the phone is outweighed by the fact that in a matter of seconds you can simply swap the phones battery and have 100% automatically . This is literally impossible with other phone brands. You would have to charge the phone with a power bank and habe to wait several minutes for the phone to reach 100%. Overall,the Fairphone 4 is a great phone ,I'm not going back to any other phone brand. I don't understand all the negative reviews online. The size is perfect .The weight is perfect .The camera is good .The phone's speed is good too . I am 100% satisfied ,even with the battery that could be much better .I'm planning on buying a second spare battery to charge my phone to 100% in seconds !
Super Handy
First one I got lasted 1 year and a half of heavy use. Numerous falls, including one from 4 stories and I had it in a steamy bathroom alot. Ultimately the antenna gave out but I bought another one because of its immense durability. Second phone came pre-bricked so I sent it back. Third phone is now having issues with GPS and takes ages to get a fixed position. Hopefully I can resolve this on the fairphone forum, but as I buy these from the official store I'd expect better.
I want to give it 5 stars, I really do. I love the idea behind the brand. But.... a recent update highjacks your power button and makes it the "Google Assistant Button". Ridiculous! I love Fairphone's mission of durability, sustainability, customer-rights, and paying a fair price for goods and services down the supply chain. This move feels weirdly antithetical to most of that mission. It was either a choke move by Google demanding that real estate or a piece of your phone that Fairphone "sold" to a feature. If it's the former, it wouldn't be Fairphone's fault, but if it's the latter that would be disappointing! To opt out, you have to change the power button "Gesture" is your settings. But why highjack the button and make it a opt-out instead of an opt-in for a piece of bloatware? Not really customer-centric. It's the POWER button, not the "Your Bloatware here" button. If Fairphone would push back on this issue, this would be a 5 star review!
Good Phone. Price is a little high bit therefore IT IS fair
Overall a bit disappointing. The phone itself works well and I fully support the concept. However the size/weight makes it unusable one-handed which is a deal-breaker for me, particularly when the entry price remains significantly higher than equivalent models of other brands (even more so for second hand models). While I will continue to support your evolution and hope for more ergonomic models at more affordable prices in the future, I will unfortunately return this one.
Unfortunately I can't do a good review. I have been using this phone for 1 year now, so my opinion has some kind of a foundation. I have been following this project since the first version, waiting for the right moment to step in and give them an opportunity. FP4 was, in my opinion the right moment, but I think I have anticipated the moment. Don't get me wrong, I love this phone, the idea, construction, the effort put on it, but for the price I paid, wich is just 100€ cheaper than a OnePlus 10 Pro, this phone doesn't make the cut. Battery life is short, the phone it's heavy, charging time is slooooow, but I can live with that. It's the performance what gets me. eSIM causing constant-random reboots, phone overheating, lossing connectivity all the time, sloooow responsiveness, the camera is under no circumstances worth using, and some other things. I think, that a 600€ phone MUST show some skills, the idea of being green and all is great, I bought that, but I want reliability too. I'll keep owning this phone until it die, and I will buy another one, but only when I am sure you deliver a product at the same level as the price you ask

Very good phone, and I'm glad to pay a fair price for what I am given. It isn't perfect but it does everything I need to do without any trouble.

Very happy to be using a phone from a company with a conscience. It's a great step up from the FP two that I kept struggling on with for as long as possible.
Perfect phone for me…..fully sustainable….repairable AND a five year warranty What else can you ask for?!
I was attracted to this phone by the underlying ethos of sustainability and fairly traded components, and I anticipated much more use of open-source software to match. The hardware is made of repairable or replaceable components - but is the software equally repairable or replaceable? Personally, even if the operating system has to be Android, I would prefer the apps to be based more on open-source or at least Google-independent products. In terms of performance, the hardware seems to work well, though the touch screen is noticeably less responsive at times than that of my previous Samsung phone.
The best phone I have ever had!
Easily the best phone I've ever had Quality piece of kit. I love the conscientious design in that I can replace parts easily, not that I've needed to do far. I've had it for a year and have had no issues at all. Fair phone have earned by trust as a reliable organisation. I was concerned that Google would withhold Android updates, but I have the next OS now, so my one concern turned out not to be a problem.
Great phone. Unfortunately, the telephone audio quality suffered when I installed Lineage OS.

I love my Fairphone 4 and after 10 months I didn't have any problems with the hardware or with the software (which gets continuously updates). For I'm no gamer, the speed and memory are good enough - I never got to any limit of either. I'm only a little disappointed that there is no speckled green or at least a transparent bumper (at all the bumpers are very expensive).
I find it very large, but otherwise I'm happy

Love my new phone! The camera and finger print scanner are better than the fairphone 3 and the phone is quicker. My only complaints are that there is only one sim card port whereas the fairphone 3+ had 2 which was really handy while I was travelling. Also disappointed there is no aux port.

Pretty large. Hard to fit into pocket. Very annoying software bug: Screen dims randomly. See for example random-screen-dimming-while-brightness-slider-stays-at-100-after-a12-update . This bug has been reported months ago and is still not being fixed. I am affected with my new phone as well.

The concept is super and the approach to smartphone market is to be encouraged. However performances are way too far from the average standard. Main issues encountered: - No native gallery app nor phone clone app for transfering data - Compatibility with normal wired earphones often problematic - Very poor audio quality, both in recording and in reproducing on loud speakers - Poor memory management, with an SD card inserted you cannot have availability of both memory options when deciding where to store data, either it's the internal or it's the sd card Very regretfully I am returning it.

So far so good. The recording software could be better, but apart from that everything is fine.
Great Customersupport. I use the product just for one week now, so I can't judge the quality by now. For the migration van Samsung Galaxy S6 to Fairpohone 4 I hired someone. It took 2 hours and specific knowledge to do it.
Everything works perfectly
I am very happy with the processing speed and the camera. And, of course, the ethics of the phone is what has motivated me and my 5 co-workers to switch to Fairphone. I am not very happy with the sound quality, as it crackles if I put the volume more than half-way, and the voice recording function also produces poor quality recordings (static and crackling). But other than this, I am happy with the purchase.

I love my new Fairphone! My Fairphone 1 lasted 8 years and gave good service during that time. A couple of repairs and a replacement battery kept it going. I would have used it for longer if the spares had been available. I hope my new FP4 will last as long if not longer!
I was excited to upgrade from the Fairphone 3+ but in all honesty, it wasn't an upgrade but a downgrade. Let's start with the physical differences: 1) the cover on the 4 damages easily and is already scuffed and stained and unlike the 3, you don't get a protective cover for the edge of the phone as standard which is so useful. 2) can only take one SIM at a time. 3) feel cheaper 4) the UX for editing photos is ridiculous. Why do I need to hit apply when I choose my edit. Fairphone 3 was much simpler to use. 5) no earphone jack, which is sneaky and forces you to buy wireless headphones..what happened to reducing consumption and waste? Feels very Apple -like. 6) a horrible lag when taking photos, my system is upto date but the screen feels like it's struggling. Overall, the 4 is a disappointment and whoever developed it as an upgrade missed an opportunity to keep what was good from.the Fairphone 3. I'm currently waiting for an item to be in stock to repair my 3 and I shall return to that. If it's not broken, don't fix it comes to mind.

Take in account before buying it that it only has space for one sim card. If you have two (like me) this phone is going to make life complicated. A shame that even the cheapest phone in the market has the posibility to use two sim cards in one device, but this one doesn't. Dissappointed.
I'm really Happy with the product and its aestethic, i chose green and really like the tone. I chose this phone for all the incredible qualities of the company and its vision. I am still testing the phone but have to say that although some online reviews have commented the camera issue as the only drawback, I found It of good quality and you can install camera apps to make them better but overall i'm satisfied with the camera. I am a little worried about the battery life but i'm still testing it out. Also, it's a little bit more bulky and heavy than your normal phone but nothing excessive, just maybe something to consider when deciding which cover to buy. The price can be a drawback but i think the evaluation has to also consider the extra years of life expectancy and the fact that you can upgrade some components without changing the phone, so we'll see. Fairphone also publishes a cost breakdown infographic so the price is explained in details which is something i really appreciated, it would be useful to have a comparison with mid/high range smartphones to have a more complete view. Overall I think this phone is a no-brainer, i'm very happy with the product and I hope more people can get to know of these super interesting start ups that are reshaping the industry.

Good general quality. To me some aspects needs improvement both in hw and sw side. Loudspeaker should be improved for sound quality, and screen should have an higher refresh rate. Camera should have a better post processing sw.
Battery usage and camera can be better
My phone restart everytime I go to the train. Don't know why but everytime! Battery life is less than a day and my phone is new Wondering how is gonna be in a few months and with the FP 5 who have different design so people will want to change the phone and not just the components..

I'm loving it so far, but still getting used to the additional weight, and it slips easily out of my hands. Luckily hasn't smashed the screen. I'm as bit fed up with Google everywhere, as d I'm not tech-savvy enough to use the alternative.

Well for me its a litle bit difficult two write in english. i like the spirit behind the company and the product, for me its the perfect phone - thats it.
It's expensive, but I've been using a Fairphone since 2016.
I like the idea that you can have a high quality mobile phone which was produced with fair conditions.

De behuizing van de Fairphone 4 is geproduceerd met aluminium van ASI-gecertificeerde leveranciers. We kozen voor een achterkant van 100% gerecycled plastic. Zo gebruiken we nog meer verantwoord ingekochte en conflictvrije materialen.

Het is heel eenvoudig om de Fairphone 4 te openen. Je hebt alleen een kruiskop schroevendraaier (PH00)nodig. We moedigen iedereen aan om reparaties zelf uit te voeren, dus maak je apparaat gerust open. We raden je echter aan om je toestel niet te vaak te openen. Zoals geldt voor de meeste elektronica: als je het apparaat opent, kun je schroeven verliezen, slijtage veroorzaken of, erger nog, onderdelen aan de binnenzijde beschadigen. Open je telefoon alleen als je iets moet repareren of aanpassen.
Zijn de reserveonderdelen voor de Fairphone 4 ook geschikt voor andere Fairphone-modellen?
Helaas niet. De Fairphone 4 heeft een ander modulair ontwerp en een andere chipset, dus de reserveonderdelen zijn niet compatibel met andere Fairphone-modellen.

De Fairphone 4 bevat gerecycled tin, gerecyclede zeldzame aardmetalen, eerlijk gewonnen wolfraam en kobalt, fairtrade goud, aluminium uit ASI-gecertificeerde bronnen, gerecycled plastic en gerecycled koper. We werken aan de integratie van verantwoord lithium en daarnaast willen we het percentage gerecycled zink, magnesium en nikkel verhogen.
